An Experienced Web Developer Offering Freelance Services

A Desk Belonging To A Freelance Web Developer

This page is an attempt to build traffic from the search term freelance web developer – If you’re a human you may want to click here to contact me directly (especially if you’re looking for a freelance web developer with SEO expertise!) – if you’re the Google Spider then please read on!

First thing to think about is what do I want to optimise this page for? Basically what is the phrase I want people to find this page on.

I came down to 2 potential phrases ;

  • freelance web developer
  • freelance website designer

I’m already thinking stages ahead – how will I get the search engine spiders to find the new page; how will I get the backlinks for external sites; should I post the new article on social networks, what will I do with all ne new business!

But focus is the key here – quite literally.

Key Word Focus – For This Page ‘Freelance Web Developer’

Put yourself in the position of the type of client you want –

  • What will they be searching for to find your services?
  • Are your client’s terms of reference the same as yours?
  • What will they expect from the page at the end of that search?
  • Can you realistically deliver the services your promoting yourself on?

I am an experienced freelance web developer although I wouldn’t necessarily refer to myself as that in normal conversation but this isn’t a normal conversation.

I’m having a dialogue with the search engine spiders about the term ‘freelance web developer’ and I need to convince that spider that I legitimately know what I’m talking about.

I also need to be sure that the type of person I want to visit my web devolpment website will use these terms to begin their search for a freelance web developer.

This is perhaps the fundamental point – its hard enough to generate content for your web site so we need to be sure the effort is not in vain – we need to be sure people are actually using the words we’re optimising for (in this case freelance web developer) in their search.

Do do these I went straight to the source – Google.

I started a dummy Google Adwords campaign for this page and Google itself suggested suitable search terms based around the focus of the existing content on my site.

There were some surprises here. When I first started to think about optimisisng this page I was going to use ‘web developers in staffordshire’ as my term. When I checked this in the google keyword tool it suggested I’d get no impressions on that term.

As a freelance web developer there are a number of tools available for me to develop my web presence on the internet.

I’ve developed this site in Word Press – the web’s most popular content management system. As a web developer who specialises in bespoke development I would normally build a site from the ground up but in this case I wanted to use an off-the shelf CMS as I feel it is a good way to hit the ground running.

WordPress Offers a SEO Plugin called ‘Yoast WordPress SEO’. I wanted to see how this could help in my attempt to optimise for the search term freelance web developer.

The content on this page is based on its recommended freelance web developer advice.

I would recommend this approach for businesses who want a website developed quickly and econimically.

How will I know my attempt to optimise for freelance web devloper has worked? I’ll need some tools to track the fruits of my labours. Many web analytic tools are available to monitor and assess web site traffic but I will use 3 :

  • Google Analytics
  • Google Webmaster Tools
  • Patience

The first 2 are readily available – the 3rd will be more of a problem! (Only published 2 hours ago and I’m already wearing out F5 on Google Realtime Tracking)

If you found this page using the term freelance web developer then misson accomplished!
